Showcase

This page is dedicated to my work at Michigan State University in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology.  When I began my MAET journey, I had little technology training.  I knew the basics but had never explored what the world of technology could do and be for my students.  Here you will see different work I have done in order to make my students' experienes in the classroom more engaging and compelling including:

Glogster

I had to create a professional learning plan for one CEP 811.  I used Glogster to create this plan.  I was hooked immediately with this Web 2.0 tool!  I knew that it was something my students would latch onto quickly.  They enjoy being able to create, and what better way than to use an online posterboard?  I have used Glogster for many different assingments and presentations since being introduced to it almost three years ago.

Online Presentation Tools

Prezi

One of the best student-motivators for presentations I have learned is Prezi.  It is as simple as Power Point but has endless possibilities.  Students will always have to prepare and present, so why not allow them to use a tool that engages both the creator and the audience?! Below is a Prezi I created to highlight Instrumental vs. Missional Thinking.

Video Production and Editing

I have become a YouTube junkie!  Not that I spend hours upon hours playing on YouTube, but I have realized what a beautiful tool it is to hold all of my video creations.  YouTube allows me to upload in the various video makers I use which include MicroSoft Photo Story, Movie Maker, and iMovie.  Below are three examples of videos I have created for different purposes in different courses.

I created this video for CEP 882: Compelling Experiences.  This video attempts to show the beauty that Flint, Michigan has to offer.  People seem to be flocking out of the city, and I would like to see this change.  Flint is a historical city and deserves to have a second lease on life!

This video was also created for CEP 882.  It shares my experiences of shopping and why I choose to do the majority of my shopping at the Flint Farmer's Market!

This was created during my Red Cedar Writing Project experience at MSU.  It is an original piece of writing I turned into a digital story.

Website Development

I have had the opportunity to build multiple websites during my MAET experience ranging from a professional portfolio, a site for a Science Fiction unit for a flipped-classroom model, and a hosting site for my Red Cedar Writing experience.  Below you will find links to the three mentioned above.  To visit any of the sites, click either on the picture or the underlined text.

This site was developed to chronicle my exerience during the Red Cedar Writing Project at MSU during the summer of 2013.  It was one of the best experiences I have had while at MSU.

This site was created to be able to teach a Science Fiction unit either as a flipped-classroom model or for self-study.  This site involved numerous hours for development.  The current writing teacher in my building uses it as a guide for his Science Fiction writing unit!

This site was my first attempt at developing a professional portfolio.  Although I like this site, I much prefer my current professional portfolio hosted by Wix.

Blogging

Prior to taking the three certificate courses that begin MSU's MAET program, I had never read a blog let alone create and use one for myself. Click here to view my blog.  Below is a video I created on how to set up an account with Blogger to help those who, like me, are just getting started with blogging.

Wicked Problem Project

In CEP 812 I had to find a problem - a wicked problem - my school was currently facing.  At the time, truancy was a wicked problem in our middle school.  This video is the final presentation of my wicked problem.

Wiki: A Tutorial

This tutorial was created for my middle school writing students as a reminder on how to access and manipulate their WikiSpaces they would be creating for a Problem/Solution essay.  I had to be absent from work the day students would need this reminder instruction, so a quick tutorial was born, and my guest teacher was saved!
